Volunteer for Ronald McDonald House Charities This is your invitation to join us and make a proud difference in the lives of your neighbors and your friends. We have many smiling volunteers who help make our House a home and make all of our programs work. Make it a family activity, make it a weekly activity, or make it a when-you-can activity. We can use your talents, whatever they may be. The next volunteer orientation session will be Wednesday, April 12, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. If you would like to attend this one hour meeting, please contact RMHC.
Guest Services Volunteer Guest services volunteers work closely with staff and guest families by helping to answer our telephone, register new families, give house tours, perform light housekeeping tasks and lend a hand with special mailings and administrative needs. Administrative Volunteer Out administrative volunteers primarily support our RMHC Associates with managing an abundance of behind-the-scenes letters and data entry. These helpful volunteers also assist with special mailings and other administrative projects as needed. (Much of this work can be done from home.) Chef’s Program Groups of 7 people or fewer are able to provide and prepare dinner for House guests. Families, students, community groups, and philanthropic committees can easily participate. This is a very rewarding opportunity and the impact of your service on our families will be seen first-hand. Bakers Our House smells like home when individuals or small groups bake cookies, brownies and other treats in our kitchen. This fun activity is a great way for school clubs or small groups to directly experience the remarkable power of volunteerism. Goodies can always be baked at home and dropped off for our families to enjoy. Handypeople Do you enjoy taking on odd jobs around your house, such as minor repairs or equipment upkeep? Our home has a honey-do list a mile long! Family Garden Upkeep Our garden and play area is a beautiful outdoor respite landscaped with perennials and roses that need pruning and upkeep. Dates are scheduled according to garden needs and volunteer availability. Coordinate a Food Drive Families who stay at Ronald McDonald House can rely on our refrigerator, freezer, and cupboards being full of fresh food so that they can spend their time at the hospital instead of the grocery store. Food drives allow many people within families, organizations, offices, or schools a chance to participate and help others. Organize a Fundraiser Your neighborhood wine tasting, company poker tournament, or craft group’s homeshow, for example, can help to raise much-needed funds to help support our House and its mission. It is necessary for all fundraisers using the Ronald McDonald House name to be pre-approved. Please contact Mary O’Brien, Executive Director, at 775-322-HOME (4663) or Mary@RMHC-Reno.org for more information before planning your event. Teen Weekly Volunteer - Teens may apply for this position as it is limited to two students per school year. Youth Service Projects If you’re a member of Boy Scouts of America planning your Eagle project or Girl Scouts of the USA working towards a Gold or Silver Award, we have great ideas for service projects. Other organizations that encourages service projects or service hours that are not court-appointed are also encouraged to call. Kids Helping Local Kids Carwashes, bake sales, selling fresh flowers, and garage sales can be a lot of fun, especially when you know the money you raise helps parents be close to the hospital where their child is staying. After your fundraiser, bring your donation and the kids who helped by for a House tour so they can see first-hand The House That Love Built. Wish List Keeping our House stocked with basic home necessities requires a lot of supplies. Every few months, we update our wish list of needed household goods, office supplies, and other items. A full list is available to anyone who would like to collect or purchase wish list item. RMHC Task Force With every fundraiser and project, we often have tasks that need to be researched and experts that must be sought out and consulted. When needed, our task force meets only 2-3 times to spearhead these investigative efforts and report findings to our Executive Director. Committee Members RMHC has several committees that benefit from creative thinkers and dedicated workers. Committee members assist in research, outreach, event planning, and evaluation. Meetings for most committees are monthly and attendance is required. If you would like to serve on a committee for our golf tournament, scholarship program, grant awards, financial oversight, or marketing, please contact Mary O’Brien, Executive Director, at 775-322-HOME (4663) or Mary@RMHC-Reno.org. Board of Trustees Our Board of Trustees serves many important functions, financial and policy accountability, fundraising, and attendance at board meetings and events. If you would like a full description of board functions and expectations, please contact Mary O’Brien, Executive Director, at 775-322-HOME (4663) or Mary@RMHC-Reno.org. I Want To Volunteer!
